The team: 
The Intellectual Property (IP) Team is an international team lead by the General Counsel residing in the US. You will be working in the Utrecht office, together with an Executive Director IP, a Director/European Patent Attorney and a Paralegal. Together the IP Team is responsible for the IP related matters for Merus N.V.

The role: 
As a European Patent Attorney your main tasks and responsibilities are the following:

  • Prepare, draft, file and prosecute patent applications including in the field of immuno-oncology, antibody development and design;
  • Coordinate foreign prosecution and PCT filings;
  • Conduct regular meetings with scientific team to focus on and enhance the capacity to identify and capture the company's intellectual property portfolio;
  • Analyze technical reference, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and internal research and development specifications;
  • Interact with external counsel, advisors, external vendors, and business partners;
  • Contribute to a team environment, assist colleagues with technical and/or legal issues as related to patents and contribute to the overall IP strategy;
  • Keep informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the organization pertaining to intellectual property, and assisting with development of policies and training as needed;
  • Assist in the identification and protection of trade secrets.

Your profile: 
We are looking for a European Patent Attorney with the following knowledge and expertise:

  • A relevant master’s degree and/or a Ph.D in a technical field: immunology, biotechnology, molecular biology or a related discipline (Master’s degree or Ph.D in immunology is preferred);
  • Experience prosecuting and drafting patent applications in the field of antibody development, immunology and/or immuno-oncology;
  • Experience with US prosecution preferred;
  • 3-4 years of experience in a comparable role handling European prosecution;
  • Fluency both oral and written in English.
